The Northwest Herald recently interviewed IPRA Executive Director Debbie Trueblood on parks and recreation in Illinois in Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois guidelines and upcoming events for Unplug Illinois Day on Saturday, July 11. Here's an excerpt:

'The Illinois Park and Recreation Association has been working alongside local parks and recreation agencies to include outdoor and fitness activities befitting Phase 3 guidelines.

Getting outside and getting active is crucial for mental and physical health, Trueblood said. Many experts say that increased screen time can affect mental health, especially for children and can lead to anxiety, depression and other neurological effects.

The Illinois Park and Recreation Association is hosting Unplug Illinois Day, a day dedicated to the specifics of how to unplug and get away from technology, on July 11.

“We’re excited that there’s agencies across the state that are looking at doing stuff to celebrate on Unplug Illinois Day,” she said. “It’s just a matter of enlightening people about the joy that brings them and encouraging them within the restrictions in each community to get outside and to enjoy that opportunity.”'
